Wolverton Block Party

Saturday 19th August 2023 – Midday until 6PM

Location: The Square, Wolverton – what3words = whizzed.geese.petty

The Wolverton Square Block Party is a FREE community event to celebrate local Hip Hop culture and provide a platform for local practitioners such as Emcees, Deejays, Breakers, Beatboxers, and Graffiti artists to showcase their art. The musical backdrop will be provided by DJs affiliated to the Break To The Beat Hip Hop archiving project, who have recently collaborated with Bar Bar Black Sheep to host an exhibition highlighting Milton Keynes Hip Hop culture.

During the event the DJs will allocate selected time slots to showcase music created by artists from Milton Keynes which will also involve an open mic session for aspiring rappers. The Wolverton Square Block Party will consist of a designated space for break-dancers and feature demonstrations by Milton Keynes breaker “BBoy JMC”. There will also be a separate space provided for the creation of live street art with demonstrations by Arkade Graphics and Gareth Davies.

This year Hip Hop as both a musical genre and a culture is celebrating its 50th birthday and since its inception in the South Bronx, New York during the 1970s has populated and influenced the entire world giving rise to a global community of practitioners, entrepreneurs, scholars, and researchers all connected by Hip Hop unifying philosophy of peace, unity, love and having fun.

We have started a little crowdfunder to help with running costs on the day. Anything you can spare would be greatly appreciated.

You can make a donation to the Wolverton Square Block Party by clicking the link below.

We all look forward to seeing you in August.

“Let’s make the 50th Anniversary of Hip-Hop a time to engage. Look to the future, support, effect change!”
